Two eagle-eyed youngsters spotted a vulture on top of Austwick Church.
Holly Ross, 13, and her 11-year-old brother, George, from Austwick, captured the bird on camera at about 5.30pm on Friday.
The bird – a Ruppell’s griffon vulture named Dum – got pulled into thermals during high winds as she did a flying display at the nearby Yorkshire Falconry Centre earlier in the day.
Falconry owner Carole Petrie said: “People need not worry – she is a tame bird and will not kill anything.”
The last sighting of Dum was in Kirkby Lonsdale on Sunday and the centre is keen to find her.
“She is one of a pair and the other bird, Dummer, is just sitting in the aviary waiting for his mate to return,” said Carole.
Anyone who spots the missing bird should contact the centre on 01729 822832.
