Canalside walkers in Skipton are being given a new insight into the town’s heritage.
New interpretation boards, explaining the significance of the Leeds-Liverpool Canal in the development of the town, have been put up at Weirside Gardens and along Springs Branch.
And the project, organised by the Skipton Renaissance Team, has been given the support of Craven District Council and Skipton Civic Society.
It has also received funding from North Yorkshire County Council, Yorkshire Forward, Skipton Rotary Club and Skipton Town Council.
John Dawson, chairman of Skipton Renaissance, said he was delighted that the project had gone ahead.
The boards complement other improvements in the area carried out by British Waterways.
“It shows how Renaissance can get different bodies to work together to benefit our town,” he said.
The Civic Society helped with the research and many of the boards feature black and white images of key buildings along the route.
