Greatwood's Got Talent!

Talented youngsters from Skipton are giving Britain’s Got Talent stars Susan Boyle and Diversity a run for their money.

In their own version of the hugely popular show, residents of Greatwood and Horseclose are taking part in Greatwood’s Got Talent.

The contest is just one of several initiatives launched by Craven Housing to improve life on the estate.

Semi-finals have been held and the grand final is due to take place at a family day on Saturday July 18 at the Greatwood and Horseclose Community Centre.

Twenty entries, including a dance act, singers and a musician, lined up in front of judges at the semi-finals at Greatwood Primary School.

The final ten will perform at the fun day, when residents will also be able to share their views on the estate in a Big Brother-style “truth booth”

Last month, Greatwood Primary School children, Craven Housing officers and Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) took part in a clean-up of the area.

Karen McIntyre, community involvement officer for Craven Housing and organiser of the clean-up, said: “The children were fantastic and really took to helping clean up the area.

“It’s very encouraging that they value their community and are as committed as we are to improving the local environment to benefit everyone on the estate.”

An estate history day is planned for September, when Craven Housing officers will also present responses made by residents over the summer.

Michael Hewson, area director for Craven Housing, said: “Greatwood and Horseclose is a socially diverse community and we want to involve as many people as possible this summer in helping us deliver the services the whole community needs.

“We want as many views as possible so we can help deliver the community and housing services which are most needed by people.”
