A record turn-out for the Clogfest

A record number of dancers and musicians – about 160 – will converge on Skipton on Saturday to fly the flag for English traditional dance.

They will be taking part in Skipton’s Clogfest celebration and the festivities start at 10.30am when teams will be dancing outside the town hall, castle, Holy Trinity Church and the canal basin.

Dancing will continue at these venues with half-hour performances at 11.15am, noon and 1.45pm and all teams will gather at the canal basin for a big showcase at 2.30pm.

There are six new teams making their Clogfest debut: the Chorlton Cloghoppers, The Clog Collective, Eccleston Buskers, Eccleston Heritage Clog, The New Spice Girls and Pipers’ Wyrd.

“This shows how firmly Skipton has won a place in the hearts and minds of traditional musicians and dancers. It’s the place to be in July,” said Clogfest organiser Paul Hudson.

Other attractions include two pantomime-style acts – Wallop, the dancing horse from the Forest of Bowland and Cloggerpillar, the big green and yellow tangle of legs. Full programme details are on the web at clogfest.org/
