No one can ever claim it was a chicken-brained idea to promote music with an agricultural twist.
For the proms at Sycamore Farm, Brunthwaite, Silsden, has proved a huge success over the years and have raised thousands of pounds for the building fund at the village’s Methodist Church and for Manorlands Hospice.
Preparations for this year’s Proms on the Farm, which takes place next Saturday, July 18, are well advanced.
The concert will be opened by the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Coun John Godward, at 7.30pm and guest artistes include the Herr Jens concert band, the Yorkshire Building Society Brass Band with soloist Sarah Halstead, Silsden-based One Night Only and, making its debut, Down from the Hills.
“Down from the Hills is a group of local musicians who have been practising for weeks,” said organiser Rosalie Holroyd. “They will play the Last Night of the Proms bit. One of the musicians, the local barber, is 60 on the night, so we could be in for a bit of fun.”
Tickets cost £10 and are available from Twiggs newsagents or by ringing 01535 653575. All the front row gazebos have been sold, but visitors are invited to take along their own gazebos to pitch elsewhere on the field.
