Skipton Tennis Centre has enjoyed a very successful 2009 season.

The club teams have done extremely well, with the ladies’ A team gaining promotion, in the Bradford League; the men’s team missed out on promotion by one rubber; and the ladies’ B team also had a good season by operating on a highly inclusive basis giving lots of ‘adies the chance to gain some competitive doubles experience.

In the Wharfedale League again the A team missed promotion by a narrow margin and the B team again offered a successful inclusive policy providing lots of club members with the chance to gain some match experience.

The A team also won the league’s Courtesy Cup. The club’s junior teams at under-15 and under-18 also had a strong season, the highlight probably being the under-18s finishing third ahead of local rivals Ilkley.

The team captains did a great job for the club with Jim Weaver and Tony Adams taking care of the men’s team, Belinda Hutchinson the ladies’ A team, Wendy Barron and Ann Binns the ladies’ B, Susan Baldwin the Wharfedale mixed doubles A team while Andy Glen and Pam Whitely ran the Wharfedale B team.

Club coach Adam Cox organised both the clubs under-15 and under-18 junior teams with some help from Andy Sumnall.

The club also played host to a number of primary school tennis festivals where lots of local children got to experience playing at the club and gain a taste for the sport.

The club’s social tennis scene has also proved popular with the club growing in membership and the Tuesday night and Sunday morning adults club nights/days being regularly well attended.

The club has also hosted many events including a fun day, social nights and a children’s Hallowe’en party.

The club’s coaching programme run by Adam Cox, assisted by Carl Drewett and Ji Mukherjee, has also had a great year.

The children’s summer camps were extremely busy with all the children enjoying the camps. The club is looking forward to next season’s coaching programme and wants to thank anybody who attended a Skipton Tennis Centre coaching event this year.

The coaching programme is also running a tennis academy programme for Craven College and sessions for Ermysteds Grammar School. The club coaches also visited over 15 primary schools, providing children with tennis taster days.Aireville School has also proved valuable to the tennis programme by being the home venue for all the holiday clubs.

Skipton Tennis Centre has the luxury of having floodlights so weather permitting the tennis goes on.

The club will be hosting a number of friendly league matches over the winter season.
