People all over Craven have been doing their bit for Children in Need.
Pupils at Beamsley’s Boyle and Petyt Primary School sold their toys, games and books to each other and made buns for a sale which raised £112.
The children also paid to wear non-uniform for the day, said teacher Mrs Ruth Jenkinson.
At Skipton’s Otley Street Nursery School, children made Pudsey Bear brooches and took their teddies along for a picnic. They raised £82.
Youngsters at Settle Primary School raised £100 with activities including making and selling bookmarks and holding a “wear what you want” day.
Clapham and Horton-in-Ribbles-dale pupils wore fancy dress and baked buns and biscuits to sell.
An auction and raffle at the Buck Inn, Paythorne, raised more than £1,220, boosted with a sponsored chest wax by Malcolm Gibson.
And staff at Rayner’s Opticians in Skipton High Street surprised went to work dressed in pyjamas.
The Bioclusive team at Systagenix Wound Management in Gargrave – formerly Johnson and Johnson – organised a charity leg wax for the men. There were 25 volunteers from all departments. The firm thanked Fiona and Rachel, from Craven College, who gave their time to perform the task. Yellow hats and Pudsey bear biscuits were sold around the site and there was an auction of Pudsey bear goodies. So far, £1,500 has been raised.
At the Clarendon Hotel, Hebden, landlord and chef Ashley Crampton had his body shaved by Grassington beautician Chloe Metcalfe to raise money.
Craven College year one childcare students wore pyjamas and children and staff at Burnsall Primary arrived at school covered in spots and stripes. Activities throughout the day helped to raise just over £100. Class 3 spent the morning learning about children less fortunate than themselves and were able to see how their support helped young people all over the world.
“The day has taught the children of Burnsall to enjoy life and all it brings, but not to take for granted that this is the life that all children lead,” said teacher Michelle Thackray.
Staff at Skipton Financial Services, based at The Bailey, raised £442, almost double last year’s total. Activities included a dress-down day, a cake stall and quiz.
Marketing director Matthew Leach and head of operations Peter Norris did a sponsored stint on the telephones. Communications manager Matthew Cox said: “Having raised £230 in 2008, for only 150 staff to raise almost £450 is a great achievement.”
