Silsden’s New Year’s Day three mile fun run will set out for the 26th time this New Year’s Day.
Over the years the event has raised £1,600 for organisations both local and international.
Every year between 60 and 100 hardy souls assemble at the Green in Silsden to begin the ascent of Bradley Road and Hole Lane before cruising across Heights Lane whilst preparing for the tumultuous descent of Horn Lane and Bradley Road.
To celebrate a fantastic 26 years of what must be the area’s most long running road event participants are invited to commemorate the fact that the event started as a fund raiser to finance the fledgling Silsden Rangers ARLFC’s by sporting a rugby shirt of their choice.
As ever each runner will receive a timed certificate, socks, a mystery prize and, donations permitting, a surprise from Santa’s sack! Competitors have traditionally contributed small wrapped donations. As a special incentive to seriously challenge Dave Throup’s 1991 record time of 15 mins 25 secs this year there will be a cash prize, of £1.00 per second shaved from the record by the winner, if the record is broken. The event starts at 11.15am with entries on the day costing £2 available from 10.30am. Participants of all ages and abilities are welcome. The prize giving will take place in the Sunnybank Social Club.
