AN EXHIBITION celebrating the life of plant explorer, botanist and author Reginald Farrer opened at the Peter Scott Gallery, Lancaster University, this week.
Farrer, who has been termed the father of rock gardening', introduced many new plants to Britain from Far Eastern expeditions.
Born in 1880 in Clapham, North Yorkshire, he had a passionate interest in plants from childhood.
But, as well as being an intrepid plant-hunter, Farrer was a talented writer and painter who produced 21 books as well as countless articles and letters from his expeditions This exhibition, organised with the Heritage Trust for the North West, runs until June 2, open Monday to Friday. Admission is free.
