Skipton Development plans put back again

A planned consultation on the Skipton Developments project has been put back again.

Last year, Craven District Council said the public would be shown plans for 9 High Street and Granville Street in the first quarter of this year.

But it has yet to sign contracts with developer Lovell and it will be another two months at least before the consultation can take place.

A council spokesman said: “We’re aiming to sign contracts on Skipton Develop-ments with the developers, Lovell, in the next couple of months.

“Once contracts have been signed, a pre-planning public consultation for Granville Street and 9 High Street will take place. The planning applications will be submitted after the consultation is over.”

A timetable to unveil the plans to the public was originally planned for last September, but was put back for two months. In November, the council announced that a pre-planning public consultation would take place before April this year.

It is believed that the project will form two phases – the first involving the demolition and replacement of 9 High Street with retail units and the demolition and replacement of the council’s offices in Granville Street.

The second phase, to be carried out in the next three years – if viable – is expected to include new houses at Horse Close and the redevelopment of Skipton Town Hall.
