Town gets ready for Waterway Festival

10:10am Saturday 13th March 2010

Preparations are now under way for the ninth Skipton Waterway Festival, with this year’s theme being the 1940s.

The three-day festival, which will be held over the May Day weekend, is being organised by a steering group of local people and representatives from Pennine Cruisers, with the support of British Waterways, Craven District Council and Skipton Town Council.

The event attracted thousands of visitors last year, with around 12,000 people enjoying the varied family entertainment which took place around the Leeds- Liverpool Canal.

An estimated 100 to 120 boats are expected to attend the 2010 festival.

The highlight of the weekend will be on the Sunday evening when a spectacular illuminated boat cruise sails from the outskirts of the town into the canal basin.

Canalside entertainment will run from 10.30am to 4.30pm on May 1, 2 and 3.

Anyone who has previously attended the festival will be sent a mooring application form for 2010.

For those wanting a new mooring application, to book stall space or wanting to perform at the festival, contact Pennine Cruisers by calling 01756 795478 or sending an email to info@penninecruisers.com
