Independent councillor may change allegiance

A former leader of Craven District Council is to consider his political allegiances ahead of May’s local elections.

Coun Carl Lis said this week he remained an Independent, but would be considering his position before May’s local elections.

“At the moment I am an Independent, but I will be taking a close look at the best way to serve my ward and the district when the election is called,” he said.

He said he firmly believed he had been elected as an Independent and would continue to serve those who voted him in as an Independent.

Coun Lis represents the Ingleton and Clapham ward on the district council and is also chairman of the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority.

Last year, he received an OBE for services to the Yorkshire Dales community.
