A chartered surveyor from Bank Newton is organising a bike ride from London to Paris to raise money for South African charity Project O.
Rachael Howard, 28, of Newton Grange, wants more people to join her on the ride at the end of May.
“Collectively we’re aiming to raise £23,000 for Project O, which will pay for a zero-carbon-footprint, self-sufficient children’s home for HIV AIDS orphans. Individually, we’re also raising funds for a number of charities and I have chosen to support Macmillan Cancer Care,” said Rachael.
Rachael, a former Skipton Girls’ High School pupil and a senior surveyor for Jones Lang LaSalle in Leeds, is one of five organising the ride and says there are still places available.
Participants can enter individually or as part of a team, sharing the journey with others. The event runs from May 30 to June 3.
It costs £300 to enter and participants are then asked to set their own fundraising target, giving half to Project O and half to their chosen charity.
“We would love people to join us,” said Rachael. “It is a challenge of a lifetime and a wonderful way to meet new friends as you cycle through the roads of England and France. It is a tough – but do-able – cycle challenge which will test your physical stamina as well as your emotional abilities to make it to the Eiffel Tower.”
l In addition to the cycle ride, Rachael is organising a Classic Cabaret evening at the Rendezvous Hotel, in Skipton, on April 17, with theatre, live entertainment and fine dining. There will also be musical bingo and a charity auction, raffle and a chocolate fountain in the interval.
