Look behind the scenes at hospital theatre

1:52pm Wednesday 17th March 2010

People will have the chance to look behind the scenes at Airedale Hospital’s theatres and pre-assessment unit on Saturday.

The event, which runs from 11am to 3pm, has been organised by Airedale NHS Trust and visitors will be able to see a variety of displays and test their skills on laparoscopic surgery and dry bone drilling simulation equipment.

Staff will also give tours and there will be video demonstrations of cataract and lens replacement techniques.

Everyone going along will be offered the chance to become a member of the trust as part of a drive to increase public involvement in Airedale Hospital.

Trust chief executive Adam Cairns said: “We really hope that as many people as possible come along to the event, including families and children. There’s plenty going on and everything is really interactive so it’s a fantastic opportunity for people to come and find out more about their hospitals while they’re relaxed and not worried, as many people are when they come for an operation.”
