Two of Skipton Golf Club’s most promising young junior golfers, Lucy and Milly Eaton, were triumphant on Saturday when they won the final round of the ladies winter knock-out event - The PK Putter.

Known affectionately at the club as the swing sisters 13-year-old Lucy, with a handicap of 18, and 12-year-old Milly, with a handicap of 28, had to concede nine shots to their opponents, Amanda Lodge and Helga Perkins.

With the match all square on the 12th tee Lucy and Milly turned on the pressure around Skipton’s own Amen Corner, eventually running out winners on the 16th with a winning match score of 3 and 2.

Both the girls are products of Skipton Golf Club’s Junior Academy and are currently undergoing coaching with the Yorkshire Juniors.

They are in the club’s elite coaching squad which travels to Cookridge Hall once a month to see ex-Euro Tour pro Peter Tupling. Last year Lucy represented Yorkshire at the Regional Junior Jamboree hosted by Lancashire.

Skipton Golf Club Ladies’ success in The Mail On Sunday Cup continued on Sunday at Otley Golf Club.

The Skipton team of Amanda Kilner, Sally Thorpe, Sylvia Eastwood, Hazel Lowther and Joan Padgett beat their opponents by 3½ matches to 1½ and now proceed into round four of this national competition.

* The start of the 2010 season at Settle Golf Club saw the three captains, Ray Jones, Christine Mercer and Michael Elstub, drive an impressive 635 yards in total from the second tee.

Alvin Fawcett led his team to victory in the ensuing stableford competition.

The John Moore Foursomes Trophy was on offer to the men and Peter Johnson (president) and Geoff Garnett (nett 77.5) were narrowly beaten into second place by the in-form pairing of John Holliday and Colin Hall (nett 77), of whom great things are expected in the coming weeks.

John Lassey, Mark Vickery and Andrew Mills secured first place in the Easter Scramble with a sub par round of 67.7.
