Long-serving Wharfedale star Chris Malherbe continues to be linked with a move away from the club.

The England Counties international is rumoured to be considering joining the start-up Welsh Premier League franchise in North Wales.

Club spokesman Gordon Brown said: “He has been associated with the new Welsh franchise but as far as I know he will still be playing for Wharfedale next season. That seemed to be the case the last time I spoke to him.”

Wharfedale’s final home match of the season, on April 14, is against Esher, who by that stage could have been crowned champions - if not, it’s only a matter of time.

It will be a huge occasion between two enterprising sides, representing two clubs which hold each other in great respect.

What makes the prospect even better is that the match will be sponsored by former Wharfedale players.

If you come into that category, and want to be part of it you should contact Alex Driver on alex@jbsprings.co.uk, or David Whitefield at david@jbsprings.co.uk.

The annual Trace Aldersley Memorial Match will take place at the club on Sunday, May 2, kicking-off 2.30 pm.

This is a match between Wharfedale Veterans and those under 25, and gives players and spectators alike the chance to stagger down memory lane.

Whichever category you belong to, David Whitfield needs to hear from you on 07990 556037 or by e-mail at david@jbsprings.co.uk.

Selection for Saturday’s match away to the third-placed club Launceston was to be made after the successful Yorkshire Cup tie at Middlesbrough on Tuesday night which Wharfedale won 55-7 to go through to the semi-finals where they will get a home draw.
