It’s not every day that the chairman of Craven District Council invites people into his house.
But on Thursday, Coun Paul Whitaker will be throwing open his doors as part of Energy Saving Week.
Coun Whitaker, who during his year in office is championing renewable energy, has installed solar panels and a ground source heat pump at his Grassington Road home. The 21 solar photovoltaic panels on his roof provide the house with electricity, with any surplus going into the National Grid.
“Government has set the UK a target to source 15 per cent of our energy from renewable sources by 2020,” he said.
“Although we have installed as much renewable energy as possible to power our home, people can still benefit from partial installations and I would urge anyone thinking about going down this route to come and see it in action.”
Craven District Council takes part in Energy Saving Week, run by the Energy Saving Trust, every year.
Places are limited for Thursday, so to book a place, telephone the EST Advice Team on 0800 512 012.
