Little William Cluny is dwarfed by this giant pumpkin, which would house plenty of Halloween lanterns.

The pumpkin, weighing a massive 320 kilogrammes – more than 700lbs – was sourced locally through Skipton-based Class One Fresh Produce in Skipton.

Director Ben Cluny said: “We are conscious that many of our chefs will be featuring pumpkin dishes for Halloween and when our grower offered us some giants, we thought they would be a good product for chefs to use to launch their seasonal menus.”

This one was snapped up by Nigel Haworth, the chef and joint proprietor of Northcote Group, which includes the Bull at Broughton.

Nigel said: “Pumpkins are a fabulous autumn vegetable.

“They’re a cheap, versatile vegetable which give a great flavour for a warming soup. I also love pumpkin caramelised with game.”

The current world record for the largest pumpkin was set in Ohio, USA, for a pumpkin which weighed 783 kilogrammes.
