The North Yorkshire Credit Union has set up collection points at Skipton and Cross Hills Libraries.

Customers can pay into their savings accounts and pick up information about credit union services.

In addition, credit union representatives will be available every Wednesday between 10am and 11.30am so customers can apply for a loan, find out about becoming a member, deposit savings or make loan repayments.

And the credit union has also established a weekly community access point at Grassington Hub on Tuesdays from 10.30am to noon.

North Yorkshire Credit Union was established in 2009 and is a not-for-profit community-based organisation, owned and run by its members.

County and district councillor Robert Heseltine, who launched the library collection point at Skipton, said: “The credit union offers a good opportunity to save money or get a loan for people who traditionally may not be able to get these services through the banks.

“It is brilliant news that the credit union’s services will be available at the library. This is yet another valuable service being offered to residents and reinforces the important services and facilities the library offers the community.”

Any adult living, working, studying or volunteering in North Yorkshire can join by paying a one-off fee of £1 and a £1 shares deposit.

Once their account is opened, members become eligible for a low-cost loan, which is not related to savings. The loans can cost less than those from other organisations and can often help to people with low income or poor credit history.
