Fresh Radio looks set to be taken over by new owners.

The Broughton-based radio station, which moved to its new premises from Skipton almost three years ago, is understood to be awaiting the go-ahead from Ofcom before being taken over by multi-media company UKRD.

The firm, based in Cornwall, owns and operates 16 local commercial radio stations across the country, including Stray FM and Yorkshire Coast Radio, and is the fourth largest operator of commercial radio licences in the UK.

Fresh, launched in 1997 as the independently-owned Yorkshire Dales Radio and based at Craven College’s Aireville campus, moved to Firth Street in Skipton and then to Broughton Hall business park in March 2009.

The move to Broughton Hall, under new owners Roger Tempest and station manager Julian Hotchkiss, was seen as a new era for the radio station after its owner since 2007, Laser Broadcast-ing, went into administration.

Yesterday, Mr Tempest told the Craven Herald there had been just one redundancy at Fresh, its former head of news, James Wilson, there were no financial issues at the station and it would continue, although there would be a slight format change.

He was confident of getting the go-ahead from Ofcom in the next few days and said it would be a positive move for Fresh.
