Debate on future of Ingleton Middle School site

A steering group has been investigating how a school due to be axed at the end of the summer term could be best used after it closes.

More than 300 people responded to a survey, put out by the group in December, and the majority were in favour of retaining Ingleton Middle School for use in the community.

Now the group is asking people to voice their preferences either to back suggestions for the school to become a health centre, to establish one of the Government’s new “free schools” or for it to be used as a heritage and leisure centre.

Speaking for the steering group, Michelle Hodgson said: “We want to energise the community, get them on board and see them engage with what will happen to the building. North Yorkshire County Council has offered the site for community use once the school closes in July.

“However, this is only if there is a viable business case for the running of the site. It must be self-funded.”
