Oscar-winning screenwriter Simon Beaufoy's next project could be adapting a best-selling teen novel.
Film company Lionsgate hopes to sign the Slumdog Millionaire writer for the sequel to upcoming movie The Hunger Games.
The blockbuster adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ novel – the first in a trilogy – is expected to be a hit when it is released in March. Lionsgate is already preparing sequel Catching Fire and is reportedly approaching former Glusburn man Simon for writing duties.
Internet movie sites have been buzzing since leading news site Deadline reported the plans of the film’s production team. The books follow a girl’s experiences in a near-future world where teenagers fight for their lives in a TV game show.
Since his1990 success with British comedy The Full Monty, Simon won international acclaim for Slumdog Millionaire and recent film 127 Hours.
He picked up a Golden Globe, an Oscar and a BAFTA for Slumdog, but missed out on all three awards for 127 Hours despite being nominated.
