A Barnoldswick pub was used to launch two new Craven breweries.
Barnoldswick man Mark Harrison has opened Barlick Brewery – the first brewery to be launched in Pendle over the past 40 years.
And Mark’s good friend, Paul Sheldon, owner of Barley Bottom home brewing shop based at Howden Industrial Estate in Silsden, also just launched his own brewery, Barley Bottom Brewery.
Mark, 45, who has been home brewing beer for ten years, came up with the idea of starting a brewery in 2009 but said it was difficult at the beginning.
Mark, a regular at the Greyhound pub in Barnoldswick, has teamed up with Don Hinchcliffe, who with co-owner Chris Storey saved the pub from being turned into flats.
“They’ve wanted to set up their own microbrewery so it seemed like a good idea to go in together,” Mark said.
And his new ale – Barlicker Bitter – was an overwhelming success with all 72 pints selling out within the first hour.
