Simon Beaufoy adapts The Full Monty for the stage

Oscar-winning screenwriter Simon Beaufoy has adapted his first film hit The Full Monty for the stage.

The play - the first to be written by former Glusburn man Simon - is due to tour early next year. It will premiere in Sheffield, the city where his tale of unemployed steelworkers becoming male strippers was set.

In 2000 the film was turned into a musical - without Simon's involvement - and the story was relocated to Buffalo, New York.

But Simon insisted the latest version remained in its original location.

Songs from the film are likely to be used in the show, including Hot Chocolate’s You Sexy Thing and Donna Summer’s Hot Stuff.

Simon went on to win an Oscar, Golden Globe and BAFTA for Slumdog Millionaire.
