Skipton town crier Kevin Griffiths won the Barlick Bellman Trophy for best town crier at a competition in Barnoldswick during the diamond jubilee festivities.

Kevin’s victory saw him carrying off a trophy that he had himself commissioned when he was Barnoldswick’s first crier of modern times.

Judges were town council chairman Councillor Lindsay Gaskell and James Wilson from Drystone Radio.

Kevin’s successor, Eliza Mowe, organised the event, which attracted criers from as far away as Canada.

Youngsters took part in a junior town crier competition during the afternoon.

Eliza, who won the European championships when they were last held, performs a cry at 11am on the first Saturday of each month in the town square.
