Planners to reconsider Lothersdale chapel renovation
10:10am Saturday 30th June 2012 in News
The planned conversion of a former chapel in Lothersdale is to be reconsidered by Craven planners.
In February plans to turn the Bethel Chapel into two homes were rejected because of the impact on the adjoining graveyard.
Craven District Council’s Planning Committee heard that the graveyard was still in use and that there would be conflict between visitors to the graves and occupants of the new houses.
But a revised application no longer includes gardens close to the graveyard and is now for a singe, four bedroom live and work unit.
The ground floor office, to be a graphic design business, would also feature obscure glazing.
In a report to the planning committee’s meeting on Monday, councillors will be told that the discussions have taken place with former objectors to the scheme.
It is still owned by the Methodist Church Airedale Circuit which is supporting the application on the grounds it is a heritage asset that needs a new use.
