Ingleton all set for gala day

Ingleton Gala queen Chloe Handley
Preparations are well under way for this year’s Ingleton Gala, which takes place on Saturday.
Despite hard times, the community of Ingleton has put together an action-packed programme.
“This is an incredibly important fundraising event for Ingleton Rural Community Association (IRCA) and the village, especially now that North Yorkshire County Council funding for the community centre has been withdrawn,” said a gala spokesman.
“Funds raised help to cover the community centre’s running costs.
Gala queen Chloe Handley will be attended by Emma Hammond, Sophie Nemeth, Jenny Mills, Ashley Unsworth, Lindsay Nicholson, Millie Dinsdale, Ellie Burrow and James Waters.
The imaginations tent will return after getting a fantastic reception last year and categories include knitting, painting, photography, baking and modelling.
Gala day commences at noon with the judging of the fancy dress on Ingleton Primary School’s field and the parade around the village, led by the Lancaster Batala Band - road closures will be in place for around 40 minutes.
Once again, the gala is being run in conjunction with Ingleborough Mountain Race. A favourite with fell runners nationwide, the race encompasses one of Yorkshire’s magnificent Three Peaks and attracts entries from around the UK.
The race has been held annually for more than 40 years and race organiser Dave McGonnigal is anticipating entry numbers to reach an all-time high in this Olympic year.
