Skipton Craven Rotary Club elects new president

9:00am Saturday 21st July 2012

Colin Hargreaves has been elected president of Skipton Craven Rotary Club, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.

Mr Hargreaves, who previously served as treasurer, said: "We have a strong tradition of working with the community of Skipton in raising money for local and international charities.

“The Rotary motto of ‘service above self’ is recognised by members as being probably more important today in these austere times, where charities are having to provide more support, than during the UK’s more prosperous years.

“We will hold the Great Skipton Santa Fun Run on Sunday, November 25 and continue our fundraising programme. The club will support, among others, Martin House Hospice, Manorlands Hospice, Macmillan Cancer Support, Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the ABF Charity.

“On an international front we support Rotary International projects, Shelterbox disaster relief charity and the education of students in Kenya.

“We support local young people by giving them access to leadership experiences on land through the Rotary Young Leadership scheme, and at sea by working with the Ocean Youth Trust.

“We try to broaden young people’s horizons by giving them the opportunity to take part in the national Rotary young chef competitions and local technology tournaments. We also support some young individuals for one-off projects, enterprises or expeditions."
