Skipton Town Council move 'not likely until 2013'

A move into Skipton Town Hall by the town council is not expected to take place until next year.

Chief officer Dave Parker told councillors that work was progressing towards the management of the hall being taken on by a heritage trust.

In May, it was announced that Craven District Council had agreed in principle to management of the hall being taken over by the Heritage Trust for the North West.

The trust, based in Barrowford, will work with Skipton Civic Society and Gargrave -based Chrysalis Arts to form a new trust for the grade two listed building.

It will also mean the town council moving from its current premises above Barclays Bank in the High Street, to the town hall.

Mr Parker told full council that the trust was working on a full business plan to present to Craven council before final consent is given.

He said a condition survey on the building needed to be undertaken and a shadow board for the new trust, including a chairman, was being put together.

“It will probably be next year before we can move,” he added.
