Skibeden tip will stay open for longer

Skipton ’s Skibeden tip looks set to stay open for slightly longer than expected.

The landfill site on Harrogate Road was due to close last month, but will now remain open at least until October.

It is to be replaced with a new waste transfer station at Halton East, but problems with securing planning permission meant the new site is not due to open until the end of October.

Yorwaste, which operates the site for North Yorkshire County Council, has now applied to Craven District Council for a temporary extension at Skibeden.

“Yorwaste remains committed to closing its landfill site at Skibeden and replacing it with a waste transfer station at Halton East,” a spokesman said.

“Unfortunately, delays in the planning process means the transfer station at Halton East won’t be completed until the end of October and in the interim period it is important to ensure we can continue to provide a waste management service. We have, therefore, applied for planning permission to use part of the Skibeden site as a temporary waste transfer station.”
