The Olympics might be over but the inspiration of Yorkshire’s medal-winning athletes lives on.
And, in honour of them scooping 12 medals including a gold for Hebden ’s Andy Hodge, Cross Hills -based Naylor’s Brewery has brewed a special celebration beer.
“We watched, gasped and cheered while events unfolded,” said sales manager Jeff Wilson. “I can honestly say as a man of 49 I had a tear in my eye more than once, firstly with Andy Hodge and then with Jessica Ennis - and with Andy being so local to our brewery we were over the moon for him.
“We have never met Andy or Jessica but you feel like you know these wonderful people and we have lived the dream with every one of them. Watching and reading their stories has been wonderful and they all deserve our thanks.
“We have been inspired to name a new celebration brew in the honour of all the Yorkshire athletes who have competed at the London 2012 Olympic Games. It will be called Yorkshire 723 celebration ale after the seven gold, two silver and three bronze medals won by our Yorkshire athletes. It’s our way of saying thank you.
