Council rejects plans for wind turbines at Brightenber Hill

Plans for three giant wind turbines at Brightenber Hill, near Gargrave, have been thrown out by Craven councillors.
Energiekontor’s second attempt to build a wind farm on farming land next to Craven Country Ride was dismissed by councillors who concluded it would have a devastating impact on the lives of the occupants of nearby Ash Tree Farm.
More than 100 people packed into Gargrave Village Hall on Monday, with many more left outside, to hear from both objectors and supporters of the project for three 100 metre high turbines.
Despite being recommended to approve the scheme by officers, every member of the council’s planning committee, with the exception of the chairman, Coun Richard Welch, who abstained, voted against the proposals.
