Affordable homes to be built in Grassington
11:00am Friday 7th September 2012 in News
Four affordable houses are to be built in Grassington .
Planning permission has been granted for three two-bedroom houses and one-three-bedroom house on a small croft off Garrs End Lane.
The scheme – which includes one parking space per dwelling – has been put forward by housing association Yorkshire Housing.
The plans for the Mirefield site were amended to answer concerns about overlooking and the ridge height of the proposed dwellings. Originally, four three-bedroom homes had been envisaged.
Approval was granted by the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, subject to a legal agreement being signed ensuring that the affordability aspect was maintained in perpetuity.
In a report to the authority’s planning committee, officers said the scheme aimed to address a proven local need for affordable housing.
They added: “The small size of the plot, character of the local area and proximity to neighbours dictates the layout, scale of the dwellings proposed and the number of parking spaces provided.
“Whilst compromises have had to be made, it is considered that the amended scheme is acceptable.”
Grassington Parish Council had supported the principle of affordable housing, but had said it would prefer to see three-bedroom houses, with two parking spaces for each property.
