A thank-you to armed forces group

The family of ex-serviceman Charlie Cadwallader are holding a charity bowling match and social night.

They want to say thank you to the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA) for its support for their late father.

Mr Cadwallader’s daughter, Anita, said: “SSAFA helped my father by providing a top of the range mobility scooter for him to use which we only had to return when he had passed away.

“They also helped after his death and because of this we would like to give something back.”

The family have organised a bowling match at Sutton Park on Saturday from noon - because Mr Cadwallader loved the sport. There will be a £50 prize and a trophy for the winner and £25 for the runner-up, and there will be a “hole-in-one” competition on the pitch and putt area for younger children.

A 60, 70s and 80s disco will be held from 7pm the same day, at Cross Hills Social Club, with a pie and peas supper, bottle bingo and raffle.

Anyone wishing to enter the bowls match or donate money or raffle prizes should contact Anita on 01535 636892.
