Event to raise funds for historic Folly in Settle

An event at one of North Craven’s most historic buildings will help raise funds for its upkeep.

The North Craven Heritage Trust is holding a coffee morning at The Folly, in Settle , at 10am on Saturday (September 15) in aid of The Folly Appeal.

Michael Southworth, chairman of NCHT said: “We believe this is a very important appeal to support. The Folly is a building of great significance and we want to help preserve it for future generations.”

The Folly was built in 1679 and is the only grade one listed building in Settle. After a major restoration it was opened as the Museum of North Craven Life by the Prince of Wales on December 17, 2001.

Since then it has hosted regularly exhibitions and events for both residents and visitors.

In February 2010, the trust purchased the North Range, supported by a loan from the Architectural Heritage Fund, and was able to reunite the two halves of The Folly. It will open in its entirety for all to enjoy, following restoration and refurbishment.

The trust needs to raise £625,000 to repay the loans and a further £1 million to provide an endowment fund to generate a regular income for the maintenance of the historic building. It receives no grants towards the operation and maintenance of The Folly which is operated by volunteers.

Entrance to the coffee morning is £3 and there will be a produce stall and raffle.
