A leaflet has been launched to stamp Skipton on the wider tourist trail and get it to become a “must visit” location throughout the year.
The “I Love Skipton Town Trail” is to be distributed throughout North Yorkshire including the major entry port to the county in Hull.
The aim is to get visitors from far-and-wide to include Skipton and its surroundings on their itinerary just as much as they would include the historic city of York.
The publication, launched at Skipton Tourist Information Centre, is financed and spearheaded by Skipton’s Business Improvement District (BID), an organisation now in it’s forth year of promoting the town.
Chairman Dave Wathen, said: “We want to expose Skipton as an attraction in itself but also as a hub for the wider area.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to go beyond our borders and show people what is on offer here.
“We are the true Gateway to the Dales – others have used the term but we are the true gateway and it is important we take advantage of that.
“We’re also fortunate that compared to other market towns up and down the country, Skipton is economically vibrant and the more we can explore that potential we can create more jobs for local people.”
The leaflet includes a town map highlighting the area of historic interest, High Street and the castle, Victoria Square and the canal basin and south Skipton.
There is a list of things to do and see in the town and a short description of the market. It highlights the year-round events and festivals and is illustrated with colour photographs.
