Macmillan Cancer Support is hosting its world’s biggest coffee morning tomorrow and wants this year’s event to be the biggest ever.

And it seems to be on target with numerous events planned across Craven.

Coffee mornings have already been held in Clapham, hosted by David and Jackie Kingsley, of Arbutus House, Embsay , hosted by the Carpets Bowls Club, and Ingleton , where the primary school children acted as waiting-on staff in a pop-up tearoom and raised £378.

Sally Backhouse, from Macmillan, said: “The world’s biggest coffee morning is such a special event to be part of. It’s all about getting together with the people you love over a cup of coffee and helping people with cancer. Every single penny makes a difference.”

The money will be used to develop the charity’s work, providing practical, medical, emotional and financial support for people affected by cancer.

Once again, Bolton Abbey is taking part in the initiative with an event in the village hall tomorrow from 10.30am to 12.30pm.

There will plenty going on in addition to coffees and homemade cakes with a raffle, tombola, a stall selling fruit and vegetables from the Duke of Devonshire’s kitchen garden and a men’s cake competition. Admission is £3.50.

Other events include (all are tomorrow unless otherwise stated):

Addingham : Brenda Colley will hold a coffee morning at St Peter’s Church. It will include a cake stall, tombola and raffle. Brenda has already raised more than £3,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Airton: HF Holidays will support Macmillan Cancer Support by holding a coffee morning at Newfield Hall from 10am to noon.

It has pledged to donate 50 per cent of all takings on everything sold that morning to the charity.

Appletreewick : Cakes, scones, tombola and raffle will be on offer at the village hall from 10am to 1pm.

Austwick : Sue and David Dewhirst will hold a coffee morning at Wood View between 10.30am to noon. Coffee and cakes cost £2.

Bentham : Members of Springfield Bowling Club will be serving coffee in the club pavilion from 10am.

Cross Hills : The Methodist Church is taking part in the Macmillan Biggest Coffee Morning and will be serving coffee from 10am to noon.

Earby : Members of St Peter’s Methodist Church and Mount Zion Church will hold a Macmillan Cancer Care coffee morning at the New Road Community Centre from 10am to noon. There will be a cake stall and a bring and buy stall and all contributions are welcome.

Glusburn : The primary school is combining a Macmillan coffee morning with its harvest festival.

The celebration will take place at the school from 9am to 11am.

Settle : Everyone is invited to go along to a coffee morning at Crossgates Bio-energetics and beauty therapies at Barrel Sykes from 10am to noon.

Rathmell: The Reading Room will hold its annual coffee morning and cake stall in aid of Macmillan from 9.30am to 12.30pm and admission is £2 for adults and free for children.

Skipton : Red Lion will stage a coffee morning from 10am and the first coffee or tea will be on the house. Cakes and buns will be on sale, along with books donated by pub staff.

Skipton Building Society’s flagship branch on High Street will be serving up something sweet to help Macmillan Cancer Support.

Staff will hold in-branch events including coffee and cakes and a teddy bear free prize draw between 9am and 5pm.

Branch manager Jonathan Jackson said: “We are delighted to be fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support. The work Macmillan does is fantastic and if we can help just one family affected by cancer through our fundraising we will be delighted.”

Velvet Beauty Studio, on Otley Street will host a coffee morning between 10am and 2pm and will be offering coffee, cakes and mini makeovers in return for a donation to Macmillan.

Skipton Soroptimists are also taking part in the world’s biggest coffee morning but their event will not take place until Saturday It will be held in the Soroptimist Clubroom, Otley Street, from 10am to noon and on offer will be “Laughing Yummy Cupcakes”.

Sutton-in-Craven: A Macmillan coffee morning will be held at the Community Centre in North Street from 10am. There will be a cake stall, tombola and raffle.

Tosside: A Macmillan coffee morning will be held at the community hall at 10.30am. There will be a cake stall and tombola.

Wigglesworth: The community centre will host a Macmillan coffee morning on Saturday from 10.30am.
