The Devonshire Arms Country House Hotel at Bolton Abbey has double reason to celebrate.

It was named Hotel of the Year (under 50 rooms) at the White Rose Awards and its Burlington Restaurant has been awarded a Michelin star for the fifth year running.

The White Rose Awards recognise the best in Yorkshire’s tourism industry.

The hotel’s general manager, Andrew Mackay, said: “Yorkshire has some excellent hotels and restaurants and so to be the best in Yorkshire is praise indeed.” He added: “It doesn’t matter how good our facilities are, it’s the staff that make the difference.”

The award coincided with news that the Burlington Restaurant had again been awarded a Michelin star for its food under head chef Steve Smith, who joined the restaurant in 2008. The hotel is part of the Duke of Devonshire’s Bolton Abbey Estate.

The Duchess of Devonshire said: “The Augustinian monks started the tradition of providing hospitality here at Bolton Abbey over 850 years ago – a tradition the hotel has continued until this very day. This accolade could not have been achieved without a brilliant team of dedicated staff.”
