Engines on show at mill steaming day

The Aire Valley Vintage Machinery Group added a new dimension to the recent steaming day at Bancroft Mill, Barnoldswick.

A display of vintage barn engines in the car park attracted a lot of interest from visitors. There were nine engines on display of the type that were common on Dales farms 60 or more years ago, providing power for milking, electricity and numerous other tasks.

Inside the museum, members welcomed the Mayor of Pendle, Coun Nadeem Ahmed, and his nephews, Adnan and Shazaib Khalid. They enjoyed a conducted tour before the two boys restarted the engine. Also present was local MP Andrew Stephenson, a regular visitor whose interest and advice has helped the museum move forward.

The next steaming will take place next Sunday, October 21, and will celebrate Halloween and the witches’ trials and executions 400 years ago.
