Lourdes group set to benefit

A group which takes young people on pilgrimages to Lourdes will benefit from a successful charity evening in Barnoldswick.

The event, which included cabaret, a raffle, bingo and a meal, raised £1,371 of which £250 is being donated to the Handicapped Children’s Pilgrimage Trust (HCPT).

The evening was organised by Barnoldswick couple Edwin and Maureen Murgatroyd.

Mrs Murgatroyd said the evening featured performances by cabaret artist Sarah Dennis and was attended by about 120 people.

The occasion also celebrated Mr and Mrs Murgatroyd’s 55th wedding anniversary and Mrs Murgatroyd’s 80th birthday.

She said the remaining money was going to two other good causes – St Joseph’s Church in Barnoldswick and the chosen charity of the president of the local Catenian Association.
