An Earby motorbike rider was killed in a road crash near West Marton on Sunday.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident on the A59 at around 4.35pm.

Two motorcycles were travelling from Gisburn when one, a red Suzuki GSXR 600, was in collision with a red Volkswagen Golf before leaving the carriageway and hitting a tree.

The rider of the motorcycle, a 48-year-old Earby man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second motorcycle, a black Honda CBR 600, was also being ridden by an Earby man.

Traffic sergeant Pete Stringer, of Skipton Road Policing Group, said: “It is important that anyone who witnessed the collision comes forward with information as soon as possible.

“We need to establish the full circumstances around how this incident occurred and I also urge anyone who saw the two bikers prior to the collision to get in touch.”

Anyone who can help is urged to contact Sgt Stringer or Skipton Road Policing Group on 101.
