Ceremony for 'Lady of the Hills' to be held at Horton-in-Ribblesdale

The mysterious “Lady of the Hills” will be remembered at a ceremony in Horton-in-Ribblesdale next week.

Her body was found in a beck at Sell Gill more than eight years ago but her identity has never been established.

And, next Friday, October 26, a non-denominational dedication service will be held at Horton Burial Ground at 2.30pm to formalise the placement of a memorial stone on her grave.

It has been funded by local residents.

Parish council chairman Wilf Fenten told the Herald earlier this year: “We felt it was important to mark the grave in case her family were eventually found.”

The woman’s body was discovered by Pennine Way walkers in September 2004 and, despite inquiries across the globe, her identity remains a mystery. Police believe she originated from an area of Asia that includes China, Korea, Thailand and the Philippines and she was aged between 20 and 40.

Post-mortem examinations failed to establish a cause of death.
