Hundreds of Santas will return to the streets of Skipton again at the start of the festive season.

The third Great Skipton Santa Fun Run will take place on Sunday, November 25 - and this year there is a new competition for schools.

Organised by Skipton Craven Rotary Club, it will raise money for local charities, including Sue Ryder Care which runs Manorlands Hospice, Yorkshire Cancer Research, and Martin House Children’s Hospice as well as Rotary’s own community- based programmes.

Runners can also raise money for their own charities.

Organiser David Craven said: “We want to build on the success of last year’s event where 800 runners raised over £18,000 for charities throughout the district.”

Open to everyone over the age of eight, individuals and teams are invited to run, jog or walk around a five-kilometre circular route, starting and finishing in Airevillle Park. Every entrant receives a free Santa suit and will be presented with a commemorative medallion at the finish.

Announcing the new schools competition, Rotary president Colin Hargreaves said: “We are offering a prize of £400 to the team of eight from a school, its parents, staff, pupils or the PTA which raises the most money, to reward their efforts.”

Entry forms and further information can be downloaded from skiptonsantafunrun.com or obtained from various outlets in Skipton including Craven District Council Offices and the tourist information centre, from CC Outdoors in the Square in Grassington, and from Towler and Staines in Keighley.
