Work on Silsden Town Hall delayed for six months

Much-heralded improvements to Silsden Town Hall will not go ahead until at least next April.

Bradford Council has admitted that “political clearance” is still needed before the proposed £300,000 scheme can proceed.

Detailed plans have yet to be drawn up, with the aim of starting work on refurbishments in the next financial year. The scheme was announced last July.

Bradford Council proposed improvements including disability access and performance and exhibition space.

Following the meeting the council's estate management department said the scheme could begin within six months.

Councillor Adrian Naylor has raised questions about the timescale, following a briefing to the town council by Bradford Council officers.

Bradford Council has since issued a statement outlining its progress on the scheme.

A spokesman said: “We are awaiting comments from the town council and political clearance for the scheme. We will then start a detailed plan and set up a local working group to decide the details.

“The aim would be to start on the scheme in the next financial year.”

Silsden Town Council is due to send comments to Bradford once members have discussed the issue.
