The fortnightly Wednesday sale of store hoggs and breeding sheep at Skipton Auction Mart produced trade described by the auctioneers as “cracking for all classes of lambs, with some strong sorts getting away at unbelievable prices”.
It produced an overall selling average of £65.98 for the 549 sheep forward.
Genuine Continental-cross store lambs sold away well at £70-plus, with Texels leading the trade to average £75.05 per head.
Suffolk lambs averaged £69.50, Charollais £69.22 and Mules £66.89, while horned lambs were also in ready demand, as multiple buyers sought to keep their fields stocked.
Swaledales sold to an overall average of £50.65 per head.
Robert Smith, of Steeton, had the pick of the gimmer lambs with a Texel pen knocked down at £70 per head.
The next fortnightly sale on Wednesday is the last of the season.
