With the weather turning a corner, trade for ewes with lambs at foot was buoyant at Gisburn Auction Mart’s show and sale on Saturday.

Mule breeder Richard Mawson, of Addingham, swept the board in the mule section, picking up the first prize rosette and reserve champion award.

His shearlings with twin Texel lambs at foot sold for up to £222.

Chris Craven’s long journey from York proved fruitful – he was awarded the champion rosette.

The champion pen, a pair of Texel ewes with smart Beltex lambs at foot, sold for £252, going to pastures new in north Cumbria.

James Garth and Son, of Keasden, were awarded the second prize rosette in the best Texel ewes with lambs at foot, with a striking pair of Texel ewes with lambs at foot selling for £240 per outfit.

The in-lamb section was dominated by Stuart Greenwood, who sold Suffolk ewes to £110. Despite being late in the season, John Wood, of Trawden, headed the store hogg section with Cheviots at £88.

Gisburn’s next sale of ewes with lambs will take place next Saturday, March 22.
