Saturday success at Skipton
Skipton Auction Mart’s latest Saturday livestock collective sales, Craven Feather and Agri Trader Auctions attracted a turnout of 124 cattle, eight sheep and goats, 201 poultry and waterfowl, 465 reclaim lots, 186 items of machinery and 95 lots of furniture. (Sat, June 21)
The pick of the cows with calves on offer was a Simmental-cross with Aberdeen Angus calf at foot, which made £1,130, while there was another strong Saturday entry of stirks.
British Blues had the best of the trade. Both bull and heifer stirk prices peaked at £700, with respective averages of £548 and £545, while Blue steer prices topped at £660, producing an overall average of £544.
The day’s top price youngster was a Bazadaise steer at £890, with a Hereford steer also selling away nicely at £815. Bazadaise heifer stirks sold to a high of £700 and an average of £650, with Blonde heifer stirks also popular when selling to £635 at an average of £595.
In the poultry sale, the top price of £150 fell to a Light Sussex pullet and cockerel, with a trio of Buff Rock bantams making £85, 11 call ducks £60, Rhode Island Red pullets selling to £52 and a Silkie bantam with ducklings achieving £50.
While there was a smaller show of machinery and stone items, those on offer met with a nice trade, with a day’s high of £5,200 paid for a Zetor 5245 tractor and an L200 Warrior selling at £2,500. A twin axle caravan sold for £1,650.
In the grassland section, a JD540 round baler realised £1,250, while the top price in the trailer section was £1,300 for an IW tipper.
In the stone section, a notable price of £1,110 was achieved for some Yorkshire Grey Slate.
