CHAMPIONSHIP honours at the annual Bentham Genus Dairy Sale was taken by Peter and David Knowles, of Cragg Farm, Kendal.

The winner was a non-pedigree Holstein Friesian, 28 days calved giving six gallons, which sold for the day's top price of £2,520.

All prize-winning heifers sold to prices in excess of £2,100.

Newly calved cows made to £2,200 for a second calver, 18 days calved giving 40kgs from John Huddleston, of Ravenscar, and a non-pedigree second calver from John Staveley, of Hoskins Farm, sold for £2,140.

Newly calved heifers averaged £1964.71 and newly calved cows, £1,800. In calf cows sold to £1,450.
