PEOPLE interested in access and recreation issues in the Yorkshire Dales National Park still have time to make a difference.

They have until tomorrow to apply to join the independent Yorkshire Dales Access Forum, which provides guidance and advice on ways to improve and manage public access and opportunities for open-air recreation in the Dales.

Mohammed Dhalech, the park's access development officer, said: “We have had a number of applications so far for the eight vacancies on the forum and we are hoping to hear from other people before the deadline.

“The forum’s job is to work with individuals and organisations who live and work in the 680 square miles of the park and those who use or visit the area for leisure and enjoyment, and to advise on ways to improve access and recreation."

It meets three times a year, but some members also sit on a variety of advisory groups that meet regularly to consider specific issues in more detail and report back accordingly.

Chairman Alistair Thompson said: “We have had a good response so far but it is important that the members have a range of interests so the forum will represent a balanced view."
