RETIRED auctioneer-turned-poultry showman Trevor Addison headed the pecking order when presenting the supreme champion pair of Large White Wyandotte at the Craven Feather Auction Christmas show at Skipton Auction Mart.

Mr Addison and his wife Rosie, of Barnard Castle, saw their 2014-hatched title winners – a cockerel and a pullet home-bred from prize-winning stock – first win the large fowl show class, before being chosen as overall champions by show judge Reece Jowett, of Queensbury.

Mr Addison has been successfully breeding and showing Large White Wyandottes for 15 years.

The victors also ruled the roost on price when selling for the day’s high of £120, with Mr Addison also selling a second pair of Large White Wyandotte at £90.

The first prize pen of waterfowl and reserve champions was a pair of 2014-hatched Apricot Call Ducks from T Moody, of Consett, County Durham, while J Crowther, of Soyland, Halifax, was responsible for the red rosette-winning small fowl, another 2014 White Wyandotte pair.

Other principal prices were: £95 Trio Light Sussex, £65 Trio Silver Laced Wyandotte, £55 Trio Light Sussex, £55 Trio White Wyandotte, £52 Light Sussex Pullets.

Craven Feather Auctions will continue to be staged regularly throughout 2015 on Saturdays, with the opening sale on January 17 and the first show and sale on March 14.
